Loans and Technical Assistance for Small Businesses in Marion County, Kansas

Purpose of Micro-Loans

The Marion County Micro-Loan program is designed to assist low to moderate income, small business owners by providing loans and technical assistance to establish or expand businesses in Marion County and help ensure success over time.

Loan Funds Can Be Used For:

  • Advertising

  • Expansion Equipment

  • General Working Capital

  • Increasing Inventory

  • Start-Up Equipment

Loan Size:

Up to $15,000 for an existing or start-up business

No limit on total project debt

Other funds available through companion programs for projects that qualify

Interest rate is Prime + 1.0%

To Qualify:

A business plan is required.  Contact your local economic development office for assistance

The majority (51%) of the County’s loan portfolio must meet low to moderate income requirements.  Owner and/or employees must be considered in the low to moderate income level.

The business must employ 5 or fewer employees

The business must operate within Marion County.

Closing costs vary.

No penalty for pre-payment of the loan.

Women and minorities are encouraged to apply!

Collateral and credit history are taken into consideration but are not the sole determining factors for a Micro-Loan.

Technical Assistance

Marion County works with the South Central Kansas Economic Development District, Inc. (SCKEDD) to provide ongoing technical assistance to business owners in the Micro-Loan Program, at no cost to the borrower, when a SCKEDD Micro-Loan is received.  Technical assistance may extend to many areas including, but not limited to the following:

  • Accounting and Accounting Software Applications

  • Advertising Design and Consultation

  • Brochure Design

  • Employee Issues

  • Help with Monthly Statements

  • Marketing and Market Research

  • Set-Up Payroll

The Power to Build Small Business

The Marion County Micro-Loan program is one of the best ways to start a new business or expand an existing one.

The local community economic development office will assist applicants with application guidelines.   Each community in Marion County participates in the Marion County Micro-Loan Program and is a member of the Marion County Economic Development Council.
